crew...1st
AC, 2nd AC, loader, often a trainee/intern, Gaffer, Best Boy Electric,
Electrician, Key Grip, Best Boy Grip, Dolly Grip, Swing...extra help as
needed ...although sometimes I work as a onepersonband....
Favorite stock/camera...varies with
the production and is determined by artistic and economic factors...
Number of set-ups...per day is an
unfair question as their are too many variables to accurately predict
without further information. I have done as many as 81 and as little as
6...
Equipment...is different from project
to project and their are artistic, economic and speed considerations to
the common 35mm camera packages as well as DVCAM, Mini DV, Beta Cam, Digi
Beta, 16 mm, Super 16 and HiDef... I have attended the 24p HD operator
workshop presented by Santa Fe Film and Television Workshops, with Sony
HD specialist Jeff Cree, main instructor. UCLA, 8/02, and also attended
the HIGH DEF EXPO Panasonic Varicam Workshop, Los Angeles, 7/03, and again
in January 2004.
CAMERA, LIGHTING, GRIP & EDIT Equipment
Speed...of work is something I am
known for, while helping put the money on screen. My job as DP is to give
time to the Director, and film images that help tell the story. With planning,
most set up's should not take more than 20 minutes...I have photographed
several 4 and 6 day features, on 35mm, which have been successful in their
artistic as well as business goals.
Technique...of lighting is to plan
for coverage ahead of time, making multiple set up's within one sequence
quick and easy...
Movement...of the camera is a part
of film making I really enjoy, and have a reputation for. I
use dolly's, various jib arms and prefer to do my own operating...
Location...shooting
is demanding but rewarding. Being native to LA, I know some great local
spots as well as the usual good ones...I've also been on working trips
to Ecuador, Paris, Tahiti, Norway, Greece, Italy, Baja California, Hawaii and
many other states...
Videre Inc... corporation name,
from Latin, To See
Not...related to Haskell...
Rate...is flexible and negotiable...
Personal Equipment...grip/electric,
enough for a small feature, a Panasonic
HDX 900 with 6.3-101mm HD lens. I have a bevy of various lighting and grip gear, including a Indie Dolly and Microdolly Jib arm. All very portable.
History...I was born in Hollywood
and attended Hollywood High School, and USC, division of Cinema. My father,
Sy, was in the Capra film unit during WWII, and photographed inserts
for the Why We Fight series. He later helped establish a small film company,
Churchill Wexler Film Productions, which became a leader in educational
films for schools and institutions. I was an actor in some of those productions
at age 12, and developed an interest in still photography, darkroom work
and eventually film making. Sy and Helen Wexler both passed in 2005. Sy Wexler Helen Wexler
