A young female policewoman watches her older partner being gunned down by a crooked and devious detective. She then leaves town to seek the advice of her now retired former training officer, and along the way meets and falls in love with a young man who challenges her authority yet recognizes her ability. The killer detective hunts down the policewoman, as she was the only witness to his crime. After a long chase and difficult standoff, the bad cop is finally apprehended. The young officer learns about life and love, fear and courage, and from her mentor, words of wisdom and guidance, which awaken her to the ultimate value of her life's work; TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE.
ON THE LAM NOTES
CONCEPT: Action adventure cop story with strong characters, eroticism, simple story and parallels to contemporary and social issues.
PREMISE: A murder is committed. There is a witness, who is a cop. Each of the main characters is running from something.
THEME: Corruption, greed, love and determination are all factors in our society. Sometimes we forget wisdom from elders as a tool for use in situations seemingly beyond our control. Truth prevails over evil.
STORY: Bad cop chasing after a good one, who runs to her mentor for guidance, and in turn learns about love, overcoming fear, and faith to trust her own abilities
. RELATIONSHIPS: Trish and Harry, partners, have a good time doing undercover police work. Trish and Nick build from nothing to mutual admiration and respect, need, lust and ultimately giving each a sense of personal direction through love.
Trish and Glen, her old partner, shared something special in the past, but now both need help and are victims of their own predicaments.
James May and B.B. Skye, two cops. May is the leader that B.B. looks up to, but could never compete with.
Glen and Three Clouds. A relationship metaphor for intuition, unconscious thinking and prayer.
DRAMA/TENSION: Harry casually walks down an alley. He has been set up and he doesnt know it. He will not walk out alive.
Trish sees Harry murdered. Reacts with fear, hate and contempt. Trish wants Nick sexually and for comfort. Something tells her to hold back. Nick doesnt like cops, even pretty ones.
May shoots Glen in cold blood, out of sight. Is Glen dead?
ACTION/STUNTS: Shoot-out in the alley. Slow motion, multiple cameras and extreme angles will show this as a particularly evil crime.
When Trish runs from the alley, she drives her department cruiser with reckless abandon, scared and unsure.
Trish drives her Kharmen Ghia north, now comfortable in her own vehicle, but fighting traffic, sleep, being chased and her aging car. Multiple car mounts and tracking shots.
Trish deftly chases away a bar customer, foreshadowing her athletic ability and self defense techniques.
May and Skye drive their big Olds north, using police privilege to get around traffic snarls, jump curbs, and break the speed limit. Multiple car mounts and tracking shots.
The shoot-out at Glens trailer is a major action scene, with multiple cameras, slow motion, exploding props and bullets piercing the flimsily walls. A lethal, vicious, fast paced scene.
A fist and kick fight between Trish and May climax the film. Kind of an old fashioned brawl, but this time the female is stronger, faster and the eventual winner.
